Work Engagement and Affecting Factors in Dentist

Abstract

Work Engagement is the commitment of employees to fulfill their full job roles, physically, cognitively and emotionally. The aim of this study is to reveal the relationship between individual characteristics (age, gender, marital status, title and duration of work) of dentists, who are one of the most important employees of healthcare services, and commitment to work. For this purpose, a questionnaire was applied to dentists (N: 492) working in public and university hospitals in Samsun, which constitutes the universe of the study, between March 01, 2020 and April 30, 2020. The questionnaire form consists of two parts. The first part consists of descriptive questions and health perception questions to determine individual characteristics, and the second part consists of the “Commitment Scale” “UWES (Ultrecht Work Engagement Scale)”. Student t test, Anova test, exploratory factor analysis, percentage and frequency tests were used to analyze the data. 252 dentists participated in the study. Dentists; 51.2% are women and 48.8% are men. 77.4% are married, 75.4% are under 40 years old, 37.7% have a working year between 6-10 years, and 53.2% work in their current institutions for 1-5 years. According to the research findings; It has been determined that there is a relationship between age, gender, marital status, title, duration of work, duration of working at the current hospital and devotion behavior. In addition, women, married people, specialist dentists, and those working in their institutions for 11 to 15 years have higher average devotion scores.
