More than 2 million people are diagnosed with lung cancer every year, and around 1.8 million people lose their lives to this disease. Previous research has linked oxidative stress to the lung cancer.
Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between total antioxidant status (TAS), total oxidant status (TOS), oxidative stress index (OSI), serum copper (Cu), selenium (Se), and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels in patients with lung cancer.
Material-Method: The 123 participants included 45 people with lung cancer (LC), 42 with LC who had also had chemotherapy (LC+CT), and 36 who became controls. After obtaining venous blood samples, we analyzed them to determine the serum concentrations of CRP, Cu, Se TAS, TOS, and OSI.
Results: The OSI, which was derived from TAS and TOS levels, was significantly higher in the LC and LC+CT groups compared to the control group (p<0.01). In addition, the OSI was significantly higher in the LC group than in the LC+CT group. Serum Cu and CRP levels were statistically significantly higher in the LC and LC+CT groups than in the control group. However, there was no significant difference between the LC and LC+CT groups. Furthermore, the groups had no statistically significant difference in Se levels (p > 0.05).
Conclusions: The significantly higher OSI and Cu levels in the LC group suggest that Cu may be associated with oxidative stress and play a role in lung cancer pathogenesis.

Investigation of the the Relationships Between Pain, Quality of Life and Psychological Status in Temporomandibular Disorder: A Controlled Cross-Sectional Study

Aim: The aim of the study was to compare patients with temporomandibular disorder (TMD) and healthy individuals in terms of pressure pain threshold (PPT), psychological status, and quality of life and to examine the relationships between pain, PPT, psychological status, and quality of life in TMD patients.
Material and Method: The study, designed as controlled observational and cross-sectional research, was conducted with 45 patients with TMD and 45 healthy individuals. Participants' parafunctional behaviors, bruxism, chewing side, and sleeping position were recorded. In addition, pain intensity (with a visual analog scale), PPT (with an algometric measurement), psychological status (with a Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale), and quality of life (with a Short Form-36) were evaluated.
Result: Predisposing and symptom-enhancing factors for TMD, such as parafunctional behaviors, unilateral chewing, and an unsuitable sleeping position, were more common in TMD patients (p<0.05). Patients with TMD had higher levels of masticatory muscle and joint tenderness, anxiety, and depression, but a lower quality of life (p<0.05). Additionally, there were significant associations between pain intensity, levels of anxiety and depression symptoms, and quality of life in TMD patients (p<0.05).
Conclusion: Parafunctional behaviors, pain intensity, and high levels of anxiety and depression may be important factors in decreased quality of life in TMD patients. According to the results of the study, a multidisciplinary team approach, including psychological support techniques, can improve the quality of life of patients with TMD by providing effective treatment of symptoms.

Rehabilitation results of early active motion protocol following hand extensor tendon injuries

Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of early rehabilitation in patients undergoing primary surgery after hand extensor tendon injury.
Methods: Twelf cases (20 fingers) were included in this retrospective study. Early Active Motion (EAM) protocol was applied to the individuals who undergone primary extensor tendon repair. Patients were assessed with Duruöz Hand Index (DHI) and Total Active Motion (TAM).
Results: The DHI scores of the subjects examined in the study improved significantly after the treatment (79.16±7.95 - 7.58±7.22, p<0.001). In the TAM evaluation, nine of the 20 fingers were excellent (45%), four were good (20%), and seven were fair (35%).
Conclusion: EAM produced a moderate benefit to recovery of upper extremity functionality and TAM outcomes of patients with hand extansor tendon injury.

An Investigation of the Relationship Between Dark Personality Traits and Person-Organization Fit Among Academics in Higher Education Institutions Providing Sports Education

In this study, it was aimed to examine the relationship between dark personality and person-organization fit of academics in higher education institutions providing sports education in Istanbul in terms of some variables. In the study, the relational screening model, one of the quantitative research methods, was used. As data collection tools; "Personal Information Form" prepared by the researchers, Dark Triad Scale (DTS) developed by Jonason and Webster (2010) and adapted to Turkish by Özsoy et al., (2017), and Person-Organization Fit Scale (POFS) developed by Netemeyer et al., (1997) and adapted to Turkish by Turunç and Çelik (2012) were used. The research group consists of 39 female and 51 male academics, a total of 90, working in sports science faculties of universities in Istanbul. SPSS-24 package program was used for the analysis of the data collected for the research, and the significance level was taken as p<0.05. In the analysis of the data; t-Test was used to determine the relationship between the variables, and Pearson Correlation analysis was used to determine the relationship between the scales. According to the results obtained from the research data, the DTS total and its sub-dimensions of the academics are at a moderate level, while the POFS has a high average. The narcissism sub-dimension of DTS has the highest average, while the psychopathy sub-dimension has the lowest. There was no significant difference between DTS and gender, type of university, administrative duty status, and marital status (scale total, narcissism, and psychopathy), while a significant difference was found between marital status and the scale sub-dimension Machiavellianism. For another scale, POFS, no difference was found between marital status, type of university, and administrative duty status variables, while a significant difference was found between the gender variable. Finally, a high level of positive relationship was found between the scales. As academics' dark personality traits increase, their person-organization fit also tends to rise.

Psychology and Metabolism: Biological Reactions and Psychosocial Interactions (Introductory An Essay on the Human-Centered Metabolism Paradigm)

Modern medical approaches have tried to explain many things with biological systematics. They had good reasons for doing so. Because in primitive and classical societies, especially in western societies, there were very complex, metaphorical, and superstitious approaches in understanding organism-based beings, especially human beings. However, these critical approaches have often led to a very reductionist explanation of human and other biological elements. But as the time passed by, we found out better that man is a multifaceted being, and even his biological functioning has complex qualities that cannot be explained by his own mechanism alone. This study is a theoretical and comparative study that tries to deal with metabolism and psychosocial effects to understand the effect of human psychological characteristics and deviations on metabolism and the mutual influence of metabolic deviations on psychological behaviors. In this context, partly meta-analysis techniques were used in this study as well.
